Production Schedule:
Start Date: 7 January 2017
Timescale: 20 Weeks
Launch Date: 27 May 2017

Planning and Research:
The planning and research mainly involves looking at competitors and analysing what they are doing well and try and take those ideas and make them our own by giving our own fresh take on it. We also need to look at the statistics to have a more specific gauge on how successful things are as statistics are mostly quantitative data.

Designing:
The Designing phase of the production schedule is literally just Deciding on the layout of the different pages and deciding what different pages are necessary to include and which ones we can add to make my website unique. In the design phase you also decide o the colour scheme of the website.

Programming:
The programming and development phase of the the production plan is literally just programming the website pages so they are functional and putting the designs we came up with into practice.

Advertising:
The advertising part of the production schedule is deciding what way we will advertise the product to the public for example if we advertise the social media on tv as and advert or we can advertise on youtube. The ads will show what the end product of the website will be like.

Finalising:
The finalising part of the plan means smoothing over any rough edges of the website e.g. fixing any bugs and issues.

Launch: The Launch phase of the production plan is the time we release the end product of the website to the public. After the launch we will run regular updates to fix any bugs and add new features, we will have a specific date to to perform maintenance on the website to avoid angering any users.

Possible revenue streams:
Musication is a free app and membership is free. The app will make most of the money through the advertisements it will host, we will try and make the adverts we host relate to music in some way. Some ideas I had for potential sponsors are Yousician, Bias FX, Yamaha, Gibson and many more. We will also offer paid promotions for  people that want more exposure on our app

Users also have the option to donate any amount of money they wish to help fund the project this is not mandatory for users.

The Donations are not a reliable income and will contribute a small amount of income however I do feel that a lot of people will want to fund this app due to its specific audience. The main revenue source for the website will be the Adverts we will host generating about £40,000 a month. The money the adverts make increases when you take into account the fact that the more clicks you get on the ads the more money we will make especially since the ads are very relevant our audience are more likely to click on them. If 100,000 users/1,000,000 users click on an advert it will make £60,000 a month.

Of the websites 1,000,000 users we are expecting 5% of users to make a donation of £5 and will make about £250,000.

Advertising:
Facebook's popularity allows it to feature and host a whole load of advertisements and makes it a prime place for businesses to advertise. a lot of the advertisements you see on Facebook will be determined by your cookies, the reason they use this is to make the advertisement appeal to each individual user.

People have to pay money to get their business's advertisement seen on Facebook, The cost is usually determined by how much the advertising platforms advertise your advert.

Viral Marketing

Businesses can use social media to advertise their products and services e.. an ad before a YouTube video or a basic advertisement on Facebook. Facebook has 1.71 billion monthly active users, twitter has 313 million monthly active users, Instagram has 500 million monthly active users. so these social media are great places for advertisements. Social media can be a very powerful tool for businesses to advertise on when you take into account if your ad goes viral. viral marketing or viral advertising are marketing techniques.

For businesses a measurable benefit of a video that goes viral is that they can receive millions of views as they are shared on social media sites, re posted to blogs, sent in emails and so on. An example of a viral ad campaign is the 2010 Old spice commercial which was a comedy video which has been viewed 53,206,107 times from 2010-2016. As a result of the video going viral old spice gained notoriety and increased brand awareness, the add also won a primetime emmie award for outstanding commercial.

Product service reviews:
Product review sites are websites that review and compare other websites, businesses, products.

This example can encourage growth in businesses because of the reviews and stars. When people want a product or service these sites make it easy and convenient to find the best price for what you want e.g. a hotel. the way they structure what results you get is by the best price or star rating. So it's free advertising for your business the effectiveness of the advertisement is increased if it is rated highly. the image below shows a hotel comparison site.

P1:
Facebook
Purpose: the social networking site Facebook was founded in 2004 with the goal of giving people the ability to stay connected with friends and family. It can also act as a kind of news feed as you can like news pages which means you will be notified when pages post. People also use facebook to keep up to date with celebrities.

Content: Content on facebook includes status changes, basic text posts, videos and photos. The site also includes a friend’s list that you can add other users to, allowing you to view their posts and to message them directly.

Target user: Facebook has a very wide audience as the statistics of people that use facebook are so varied. It appeals to both adults and teenagers because of its simple design and useful features. You have to be over 13 to create a facebook account.

Sources of revenue: Facebook generates most of its income from advertisements it hosts on its website. It also gains income through payments and other fees.Must-know: Assessing Facebook’s revenue sources

Legal/ ethical issues: The main legal and ethical issues that facebook has had in the past have mainly been about cyberbullying and harassment. Many also argue that it is too easy for people under the age of 13 to create facebook accounts by inputting a false date of birth. Some people find children under the age of 13 being on allowed on social media to be unethical as it is, but this also relates to bullying and harassment, as it can lead to young people being bullied and harassed online, which is also considered to be unethical.

A legal issue that facebook faces comes from the user’s ability to post photos and videos onto the site. Many facebook pages will re-upload other people’s content, specifically videos, to gain more views and popularity. Sometimes pages will do this without crediting the original creator, or linking to the original video. This is an issue that facebook faces more so than other social medias as it allows for any length of video to be posted, meaning much of the time full videos will be uploaded, which do not come under fair use laws. This leads to content creators earning less recognition and revenue for their work, which, for many content creators is their sole means of income. This is both illegal and considered unethical.

Instagram
Purpose: Instagram was launched in 2010 with the goal of creating a social network that’s sole focus is sharing photos. Instagram also allows you to meet new people and see other people in the worlds pictures via hashtags.

Content: the only content on instagram are pictures, videos and the description to the videos and pictures. Instagram also has released a new feature called instagram stories, which allows photos and short videos to be posted to the site temporarily, which will be deleted after one day. Hashtags are used to categorise content, allowing users to more easily find posts relating to topics of interest to them.

Target user: The target users of instagram are mostly teenagers.

Sources of revenue: instagram gets most of its revenue from advertisements and sponsors. In fact instagram takes $595 million ad revenue this year worldwide.

Legal and ethical issues: Much like facebook, instagram faces issues with copyright and fair use. It is not as prominent of an issue as it is on facebook as it has a limit for how long videos posted to the site can be. However, users can still post others videos and claim that it belongs to them. The 1 minute limit for videos could still be used to post full or large sections of videos belonging to other people, which could be considered against fair use. This issue can also apply to images being shared on instagram. User’s could steal artwork or photography taken by another creator and post it onto their profile without crediting the original artist to gain popularity on the site. Again, this can result in artists earning less income or recognition for their content. This is seen as unethical, and could also be considered illegal if the content posted is not supported under fair use laws.

Twitter
Purpose: Twitter was founded in march of 2006, And has since become one of the most popular social media sites online, with around 313 million active monthly users as of the second quarter of 2016. Twitter’s main purpose is as a microblogging platform, with a focus on limited text based posts.

Content: Twitter allows users to upload text posts with a limit of 140 characters. This is used a lot of the time by users who want to share an opinion on a topic, or simply to share random thoughts. The site also allows for images, .gif files and short videos to be posted. Twitter is one of the social media sites to put the hashtag to good use as a tool for finding content relevant to what users are looking for, as well as to categorise posts and discover which topics are trending. This means that a user’s experience with twitter can be streamlined and more convenient through the use of hashtags.

Target users: Given the concise nature of posts on twitter due to the word limit, The site is surely targeted at people who want to keep up with news, opinions and relevant/trending topics without having to read through large amounts of text. The easy to use, and concise layout of twitter makes it also very appealing for artists, celebrities and content creators who want to share their opinions, or want to share or tease upcoming projects with their fans. Given the fact that many of these kind of popular creators are not only on twitter, but use it regularly, leads to the site being very popular amongst fans of various artists, celebrities or content creators. Fans can easily keep up to date with their favourite creator or celebrity’s opinions or projects. On twitter.

Sources of revenue: Twitter has a few main sources of revenue. First of all, advertisers pay twitter to have brief messages (promoted tweets) show up on users streams of twitter messages.

Another way twitter earns revenue is through advertisers paying to have a topic of their choosing appear on the “trending” topics list.

Advertisers can also pay twitter to have their accounts recommended to other twitter users, gaining the advertiser more popularity.

Twitter also has plans of selling much of the stream of data that flows through twitter to other companies, which could help in marketing of products. This has potential to become a large source of revenue for twitter, as it is valuable data that is sought after by many companies and corporations.

Legal/ ethical issues: Twitter’s source of income by means of selling user data to big corporations, and the control that they have over users personal and private data is very controversial. Many users feel uncomfortable with the idea of their tweets and data being shared with big corporations, and find that it is an unethical practise. This controversy makes it very risky for the site’s reputation.

P2:
Positive to social media
  1. Make friends online: This is more for for Instagram and twitter as they allow anybody in the world to see your posts by using the hashtag feature. A hashtag is a type of label or metadata tag used on social network and microblogging services which makes it easier for users to find messages with a specific theme or content. Users create and use hashtags by placing the hash character # in front of a word or unspaced phrase, either in the main text of a message or at the end. Searching for that hashtag will then present each message that has been tagged with it. A hashtag archive is consequently collected into a single stream under the same hashtag.
  2. Find job opportunities: social media websites like linkedin advertise job opportunities and allow you to create your own profile for employers to look at.
  3. Keep in contact with long distance friends: One of the best benefits of social networking is the ability to communicate with people around the world via DMs (direct messages). Most social networks have this feature (facebook, twitter, instagram).

Negative effects of social media:
  1. Cyberbullying: Cyberbullying is the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.
  2. Decreased productivity: While many businesses use social networking sites to find and communicate with clients, the sites can also prove a great distraction to employees who may show more interest in what their friends are posting than in their work tasks
  3. Privacy: Another downside of the social media is that people can share too much information which may pose a threat to them. Even with the tight security settings your personal information may leak on the social sites. Downloading your videos or pictures and copying your status is an easy task and can be done within few clicks.
